RPG Sacred Cows: Metal Protection For Druids

By Felipe Lohan Pinheiro da Silva

İn many D20/OGL-like games, druids can’t use metal protection, under the excuse of some environmental bullshit; in fact the real reason is probably related to the game balance. But that doesn’t make sense.

For example, you have a timber/lumber/logging company that cuts tree in a predatory form (anarchocapitalists, ¡ İ’m NOT discussing the fucking privatization of the nature here!); a woodworking workshop knows that and still used their wood to make a shield. Now let’s suppose an iron/copper mine that mines their iron/copper in a non-predatory form (they’re what you may call “environmentally responsible”) (anarchocapitalists, ¡ İ’m NOT discussing the fucking imputability of the fucking industry externalities here!). So a weaponsmith/armory workshop uses their steel/bronze to create a shield. İn this case, ¿ what’s more green/environmentally responsible shield: the wooden one or the steel/bronze one? ¡ The steel/bronze one, of course! Now let’s suppose that the druid in question knows or have a clue about these facts about the production process of these shields. His more logical option should be the steel/bronze one.
