Old School – Commercial Buzzword

By Felipe Lohan Pinheiro da Silva

The “OSR” (Old School Renaissance) became the RPG version of the word “Alternative”. “Grognards” are the gaming “hipsters”, and “Open Gaming” became the gaming version of “Open Source”.

But, actually, the RPG companies don’t give a fuck for the OSR or “Open Gaming” at all, they just use it as buzz-terms to pander grognards and Open Gaming enthusiasts, and later take money from them of course. ᴊ̇ust like when technology companies uses the term “Open Source”. Suddenly both Apple and Microsoft became so supportive with the open source world...

İf you have a long beard, use a plaid shirt and glasses with a black thick frame, work as a lumberjack or forester (or dream to work as one, even if your body type doesn’t allows that), and only play “Old School” RPGs (even if you never played a truly old game before), you probably understood what İ said. But probably you didn’t liked it.
